NO FUSS-FIGHTING

Disagreements with people in your professional and personal life are unavoidable. Here are some tips for turning confrontations into constructive arguments that lead to compromises.

  1. Be allies - When you argue, it is usually with a teammate, colleague, partner or family member. You're not enemies so don't wage war.
  2. Stop the abuse - No yelling, throwing objects, name calling, verbal attacks, threatening or slamming doors.
  3. Use "i" statements - Talk about your feelings instead of being accusatory.
  4. Don't hold in feelings - Or else, you will explode! And don't bring up past issues. Deal with problems as they arise and move forward.
  5. Walk away - For at least 4 minutes if you realize you are losing your patience. Take deep breaths and collect your thoughts and composure before returning to the conversation.
